I was really excited to find out this evening that
Kiva.org is now offering microloans to small businesses in the U.S. Our 24th microloan is to Roberto - a mechanic in Fremont, California who wants to expand his shop. What a better way to stimulate the US economy, than to provide small business owners with necessary capital.
With just a $25 loan, you can make a difference. And these entrepreneurs are worthy of it. Not a single entrepreneur has defaulted on one of our loans to date. And many pay them back before their allotted time.

The topic of Blog Action Day this year is poverty. So we would like to proudly announce that we have funded our 14th entrepreneur through
Kiva microloans. Kiva has added some exciting features recently including the ability to reloan money as soon as it becomes available in your account instead of waiting for an entire individual loan to be repaid.

We're happy to announce that starting today through 2008, our firm will loan a percentage of its net profits to fund entrepreneurs in developing countries. We will fund the loans through Kiva - an amazing organization that funds microloans in countries such as Afghanistan, Nigeria and Cambodia. There's a great NY Times video article on their organization.
As part of campaign to promote small business throughout the world, Clarity Quest Marketing is offering great marketing through the end of 2007. We will give a 5% discount on new marketing services to any client business who funds at least one loan of $25 through Kiva.Labels: kiva, marketing discount, marketing promotion, microloans
Given this is a tech marketing blog, I usually don't coverage topics outside of this arena. I have to make an exception for
Kiva. Kiva is a non-profit that collects small zero-interest loans from individuals (usually $25) and lends the money to entrepreneurs in developing countries such as Cambodia, Ecuador, and Ukraine. When the individual you financed pays the loan back, you can choose to re-invest in another venture or withdraw your money.
Entrepreneurs in this country, especially women, are so lucky to have access to capital to start a venture. What a better way to change how people around the world think of the U.S. than helping a fledgling business owner and giving them financial independence.
